If you have any previous MRI, CT, or Bone Scans, please bring the films with you at the time of your appointment.

Important note: You will be billed $300.00 for the Isotope if you do not cancel by 3:00 p.m. the day before your study. We regret this but it is a requirement. Please inform us of any changes as soon as possible.

FOR ALL PATIENTS, PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING:

  • Please do not bring children or pregnant women with you due to radioactive material that will be injected.
  • Dress in comfortable clothing (for example: sweatshirt and pants) that contain no metal. If you are not dressed comfortably, you will be asked to change into a hospital gown.
  • No exercise or repetitive/vigorous activity for 12 hours prior to exam day.
  • Nothing by mouth 6 hours prior to exam.
  • You may take regularly scheduled medications with a small amount of water unless instructed otherwise by your physician.
  • Completely avoid gum, sugar, caffeine drinks and carbonated beverages one day prior to exam.
  • Please notify our office in advance to accommodate any special needs; we want to make you as comfortable as possible.
  • You will asked to lie flat on your back for approximately one hour. This is critical to completing your exam, so please be prepared.
  • You can expect to be in the P.E.T. Center for approximately 3 hours. Note: Cardiac patients will have 2 hours of preparation. Expect to be at Hudson Valley P.E.T. for up to 5 hours.

For All Diabetic Patients:

  • Non-Insulin Dependent (scheduled early in a.m.)
    • Bring oral medications with you to appointment, but do not take
    • If in afternoon, have light breakfast 6 hours prior to appointment and take medication.
  • Insulin Dependent Patients
    • Await appropriate instructions from P.E.T coordinator.

After your exam:

  • You may resume your normal activity
  • Drink extra fluids for the rest of the day
  • As a precaution, we advise avoiding physical contact with young children (i.e. those that are still growing) for 20 hours after the injection.
